This application was a mobile application done by me when I was at Win Authority for the community of Sri Lanka when COVID-19 started in Sri Lanka. Our team thought it would be easy for our people to get to know the actual statistics of COVID-19 in Sri Lanka.
We had various discussions with our team and since this was a time-crucial application we went ahead with React Native as the framework for this mobile application. We used the COVID-19 API that the Health Promotion Bureau of Sri Lanka (HBP) had made public. We linked that API to our backend was written using PHP and was being executed in the background to store all the latest statistics on our database so that we could use all the COVID-19 statistics to show them on the mobile application.
The features of the application are:
- A PCR test page that features the total PCR test done and a chart of the PCR tests done daily in Sri Lanka.
- A Stats as a chart page where all the COVID-19 stats are viewed in a chart for a better understanding of the COVID-19 situation in the country.
- The app allows sharing the stats via WhatsApp and other apps.
- The app includes worldwide COVID-19 data as well.
- The app also features an emergency contact page for people to contact the relevant authorities related to COVID-19 in Sri Lanka
Unfortunately due to Google’s and Apple’s restrictions on publishing COVID-19-related applications to their respective store, we couldn’t upload the app to the store. However we were able to have users download the Android app directly from our website and install it, we have 500+ using our application and checking and sharing the statistics of COVID-19 in Sri Lanka.
I would like to thank the Health Promotion Bureau of Sri Lanka (HBP) for allowing the public to use the COVID-19 API that allowed us to develop this mobile application and help the community of Sri Lanka.
